Start off at the mountain terminal of the cable-car, pass the Berghof Inn, turn sharply to the left and walk through the wood until you reach the Arnika hut in approx 10 minutes. There is a splendid panoramic view of the surrounding pastures, the peaks of the Osterhorn mountain range and the Kalkhochalpen (Calcareaous Alps) here. Walk a short way along a gentle slope you reach a decline in the terrain where the path forks to the right and descends to the Stubneralm. The trail to the left ascends to another fork with a bench near a grove. Follow the northern section of the trail and you will find information about the various native trees. Walk past the long-cabin and in a wide circle to the left around the Pillstein and from this point it’s only a short detour to the summit-cross.

The return along the southern section of the walk gives some impressive views of the Wolfgansee basin below.

Illingeralm alternative route:
For experienced mountaineers!.

Turn off at the most western point of the panorama circular path. From the "Illingeralm-Runde (IAR)" signpost go downhill slightly and turn sharply to the left and head southwards down to the saddle. At the sign near the pasture fence (up to now you have been following alpine route No 855) change paths for a steep descent to the Illingerbergalm (IAR, slippery when wet!!!). The Weinbachhütte offers the weary mountaineer rest and refreshment and when revived the upper alm chalets can be reached on the service road and after a short but albeit steep ascent you come back to the circular trail.
