The Gasthof “Gamsjaga” in the hamlet of Schwand is the starting point of the tour. Turn right onto the side road to Abersee and at the hamlet of Brunn turn right at the yellow/black barrier into the so-called “Steingraben” and follow the stony forest track steadily-uphill over the “Meindlalm” to the “Steingrubenalm”.
Go steadily uphill all the time, and you will eventually reach the “Braunauerhütte” hut where the terrain flattens out as you come to the “Illingeralm”. You have to push or carry your bike over the ridge, and on to the “Pillsteinsattel” ridge. You have to carry your bike again for another short distance and on to the “Pillstein” (or cycle left on the new path to the “Pillstein”). The track then turns into a steep walkway (uphill) and then a gravel track to the Zwölferhorn mountain (1,521m.). Start your return on the same track, but turn right at the first opportunity in the direction of “Sausteigalm”. Follow the track over the “Stubneralm” until it flattens out to the car park at the “Sausteigalm” then go under the power lines and cable car to arrive at another ridge. From here an (in-part) technically-difficult descent begins down to the “Farchbachalm”. The route then continues on to where the forest track joins the “Steingraben” which you climbed earlier). Turn left and return along the same route back to the starting point.
