The Postalm is the second highest mountain plateau the second largest in Europe, with altitudes varying from 1,000 m (3,940 ft) to 2,000 m (7,880 ft) and extends over many kilometres. It is ideal terrain for hiking

| Start: | Either at car park no 1 (lower car park ) for circular route No. 1, No. 2 and No. 4 or car park no. 3 (upper car park ) for circular route no. 2,3 and 4. Both these parking lots can be reached by private car or bus from Strobl via the 12 km/ 7.5 m long toll road. |

One can wander or jog for hours over the far reaching alpine pastures, enjoying the scenery or experiencing one of the old "Almhütten" which cater for the weary wanderer with simple refreshments. As well as the many other paths and trails on the Postalm there are also four lengthier, well marked, easy circular walks.
Circular route 1 : Moosberg circular walk (9 km/ 5.6 m - 3 hrs)
Circular route 2: : Laben and Pitscherberg-Almen trails (8 km/ 4.9 m -
3 hrs)
Circular route 3: Wiesler- and Thoralm circular trail (5.5 km/ 4.9 m - 1hr 30 min)
Circular route 4: Lienbachalm circular trail (6.5 km/ 4 m - 2 hr 30 mi)
Circular route 1 : Moosbergrunde
This route is marked red-white-red "R1" and is an easy, remarkably beautiful hike along good alpine paths. The Rettenegghütte (after 45 min.) and the Rosserhütte (2 hrs 30 min) are available for rest and refreshments along the way and the Alpenrose, Blonde Hütte and the Lienbachhütte inns at the end of the tour.
Start from car park No. 1 and go north-eastwards along the road for 300 m (400 yds) up to a bridge (known as the Schnitzhofbrücke). Now turn right and go up an alpine path to a right hand bend. After the bend turn to the left and walk up a small steep track to another alpine path (on the left you will find the Rettenegg hut. However, circular route No. 1 goes to the right and along a wide path to a memorial cross on the Moosberg saddle with a splendid view of the Tennengebirge mountain range. Now the path leads to the right, across to picturesque chalets of the Moosbergalm and then down to the Abtenauer Postalm road. When you reach this road turn right and after a very short distance turn left and go down a gravel road to the meadows of the Äussere (outer) Lienbachalm. From here turn right into the forestry road that gently leads up to the Innere(inner) Lienbachalm and then at this fork in the road go right to the Rosserhütte inn and then follow the path through the meadow to return back to car park No. 1 and the start of your tour.
Circular route 2 Laben and Pitscherber Alm trails
This route is marked blue-white-blue with "R2" and is an easy very rewarding hike partially on alm roads, wooded paths and meadow trails. For refreshments you can stop off at the Rosserhütte, the Labenbergalm and the Pitschenbergalm, as well as the Stroblerhütte, the Schnitzhofhütte, the Welser Hütte, Alpenrose Inn, Blonde Hütte and Lienbachhhof. Start from car park no. 1 proceed past the Lienbachhof to the Blonde Hütte. The path now branches off to the left and leads across the meadows to the Rosser Hütte and continues on an mountain road to another fork in the road at the Innerlienbachalm. Keep to the right, continue on along the narrow gravel road until you reach the Labenbergalm crossing. (A few minutes walk to the left would take you to an inn). Continue for a short stretch until you arrive at the Pitscherberg fork in the road which leads to the Pitscherbergalm Inn after about 10 minutes. From the Pitscherbergalm fork the route follows a narrow path through the meadows and woods to car park no. 3 and from here to the right, down to the Strobler Hütte, the Schnitzhof-alm (alm cheese dairy), the Welser Hütte, the Alpenrose inn, and Lienbachhof back to your starting point at car park no. 1.
Circular Route No 3 Wiesler- and Thoralm Trails
This route is marked in yellow-white-yellow with "R3".It is an easy and very beautiful walk along mountain roads and footpaths. There are four inns offering refreshments on the Wiesleralm and they are the Schafbergblickhütte, Wieslerhütte, Erlbachhütte and Seeblickhütte. The Thoralmhütte and the Postalmhütte are also nearby too!
At the upper end of car park no. 3 go to the right on the mountain road towards the Wiesleralm huts, then head right on a more or less flat path to the Thoralm. Here the follow the route south on the forestry road until you arrive at a hairpin bend.. At this bend the route heads to the right, down a narrow footpath along the Wieslerbach, a small stream, until it reaches a footbridge you should cross. Then the route goes over the alpine meadows towards the Postalmhütte and from here it is a short walk to the famous Postalm chapel with it’s beautiful view of the Rinnkogel and Gamsfeld mountain peaks. It is not far from the chapel to back to car park no. 3 over the flat alpine meadows.
Circular route No. 4: Lienbachalmweg
This route is marked in green-white-green with "R4". It is an easy hike over good alpine paths and roads. Food and refreshments are available at the Rosserhütte, the Strobler Hütte, the Schnitzhofalm, the Welser Hütte, the Alpenrose Inn, the Blonde Hütte and the Lienbachhof.
Start from car park no. 1 and go down the road in the direction of Abtenau for about 700 m (920 yds) then turn right onto the alpine road. The route follows this road until you cross a bridge, then turn right and carry straight ahead until you reach the inner Lienbachahlm.
Turn right and walk along the gently ascending alpine road, pass the Rosserhütte Inn which brings you to car park no. 3. From here follow the tarmac road in the direction of Strobl for about 500 m (650 yds) then turn right along the mountain path which leads past the Strobler Hütte, the Schnitzhofalm (alm-cheese dairy), the Welser Hütte, Alpenrose Inn and Blonde Hütte to reach your starting point at car park no. 1.
