Falkenstein (795 m)
Bishop Wolfgang (924-994) is said to have come here in the year 976 and lived as a recluse. Stone sanctuaries of nature made this area already in pre-Christian times to a special place of energy.
According to the legend St. Wolfgang struck his stick against a stone and a spring sprang forth which still flows today. The water is reputed to heal eye problems. Also it is said that St. Wolfgang left the inprints of his head and hands behind at the „falling mountain“. Pilgrims hope for the healing of headaches as they lay their had in the hollow.
The church on the Falkenstein was built in 1626. Particulary noticable are three caves in the rock. The first two create a formation through which people crawl in order to „shed their evil“, according to a custom dating back to ancient times.
Take the time for the rituals at the Falkenstein (to leave a stone, to ring the bell, to wash your eyes..).
St. Wolfgang (548 m)
The village is named after it´s founder, the Bishop Wolfgang of Regensburg. Already in the Middle Ages St. Wolfgang was one of the most important places of pilgrimage in Europe and received 1430 the market rights.
The pilgrimage church was first mentioned in records in 1180 and has been rebuild 1429 after a fire. Most famous is the gotic wing altar of Michael Pacher.
The treasure room in the tower shelter precious rememberance of history and pilgrimage. Between the Parish church and the castle you can find the late-gotic pilgrim´s fountain built in 1515.

From the middle of April until the end of October you also can use the Wolfgangsee Boat Service to abbreviate the way from the boat station Falkenstein to Strobl.

The village arose in the 14th century out of the „Gut am Schober“ that belonged to the Strobl – family. The name of the village goes back to this name, which means something like „scrubby man“.
The Parish church has been built between 1758 and 1761. The left side altar is dedicated to the miraculous image „Maria vom guten Rat“ of Genazzano.
The village fountain in front of the church with view to the lake symbolizes water, wind and sun.
