Accompany us on a musical journey through Austria. Every Tuesday, starting at June 1th until September 14th 2010 at 08:30 p.m. in St. Wolfgang.
Because of the significance of this special year, the programme contains popular pieces by W. A. Mozart as well as traditional, enchanting melodies and waltzes with typically Austrian pieces from Johann Strass to Franz Lehár.
The Salzkammgut Salon-quintett
For 24 years the Salzkammergut Salon Quintet has dedicated itself to light entertainment and has, through this, become an oft-requested Ensemble for special occasions. The Quintet is composed of 2 violins, violoncello, clarinet and piano, and is under the leadership of Walter Erla. Together, they put on concerts such as the “Sound of Austrian Music” series; the Operetta Evenings in St. Wolfgang; the (winter only) “Operetta Café” in the Art Nouveau salon of the Café Zauner; the concerts in the Bad Ischl Museum, etc. Also, since 1997 the Ensemble has been the theatre orchestra for the “White Horse Inn” operetta, a show performed in its original location, St. Wolfgang.
Their repertoire ranges from Johann Strauss to the era of the “Silver Operetta” and is constantly enriched through special arrangements of musical numbers and nostalgic salon music. From Operetta arias to hit tunes, from waltzes to tangos - whatever the genre, the Ensemble is in its element!
A cause close to the Ensemble’s heart, however, is the promotion of the works of Franz Lehár, Robert Stolz and Ralph Benatzky. These composers are closely associated with the Salzkammergut area and have conquered the music world with their timeless melodies.
As ambassadors of Austrian music, the Salzkammergut Salon Quintet and their vocalists have undergone tours of Germany, the Benelux lands, Hungary,
the Canary Islands and Portugal and have proved themselves able to completely enrapture their audiences!
In recent years, there have been successful radio and television broadcasts by the BBC, the German stations Südwest-Funk, Hessischen Rundfunk and ZDF, and the Austrian station, ORF. In 1991 the first studio production was released, with the title “An Operetta Evening in the Salzkammergut”. In 2001 “La Ronde de l’Amour” followed, a CD with the multi-faceted soprano Tatjana Schullern. This was produced to pay homage to the rarely heard songs and chansons from R. Benatzky, Robert Stolz and Oscar Straus with arrangements especially for the Salon Quintet.
The Quintet’s Robert Stolz Gold Medal, awarded by Frau Einzi Stolz herself, is certainly worthy recognition for their achievements within the field of “light entertainment”.
